Here's one little project. The Drive In speakers are from Tibbs Drive In in Indianapolis. When I opened them up the looked like they had been sitting under water or in the mud. The speakers were shot, one of the cases had a crack up the front, and the cables looked like they were victims of someones careless painting (yellow paint probably from them not being taken down when the poles were painted?). The speakers had been repainted but they lacked the attention to detail because everything including the muddy speakers were painted silver. I took the speakers completely apart and sand blasted the cases to remove the old paint, mud, and oxidation. I then fixed the crack, primed, sanded, and repainted the cases. I purchased new speakers and cable from our local electronic store (not Radio Shack, they no longer sell stuff that you need). I found the junction box and speaker baskets on ebay for a decent price. The junction box that I ordered had the little red light inside the box to keep the speakers from being run over at night. While I was soldering the new speakers in I added a little self contained amplifier and stereo jack to plug an MP3 player into. All of which his hidden so you kick back and enjoy what ever you want to listen to with out having to worry about any wires being tripped over.

Thanks, they were a Christmas gift for my fiance' so I wanted to put in as much detail as I could. She loves her little IPOD so now she can play her old radio commercials and music with out having to worry about running down the battery in the car. With no wires to trip over, it takes some of the worry out of them getting knocked over into the car. I made the base big enough that it won't be top heavy, but still light enough to take with her to the shows if she wants.

The speaker cases came from Margie's Mom & Dad, the junction box and baskets came from ebay. The new speakers and wire came from our local electronic store. The amplifier was removed from a pair of computer speakers. Maybe Thuderbird will get on here and help you with where the speakers came from (probably left them attatched to their car one night,...just kidding). They told me but I have since forgot.

The speakers came from a swap meet in Shelbyville last summer.
